THE MURDER case of the man accused of killing Kimberley Boys’ High School Grade 12 pupil Amogelang Assegaai, 19, was postponed until February 27 as the court is awaiting a ballistics report that was requested by the State in November last year.

Assegaai was shot in the shoulder outside his home in Impala Street, Verwoerdpark and died on the scene after sustaining internal injuries on October 23 last year.

Neighbours found him lying on the pavement, while his cellphone was lying on the ground.

The accused, Mbubanzi Zwakala, 48, a Warrant

Officer employed at the South African National Defence Force, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

During his bail hearing it was indicated that Zwakala’s son was assaulted after he and his friends had gatecrashed a party at Assegaai’s house on October 21.

Zwakala had visited the home of the deceased on two occasions on October 23 in search of his son’s cellphone.

Assegaai fell to the ground after handing over the cellphone.

Zwakala was arrested after a 9mm pistol was found under his bed and a green Toyota Cressida that was seen at the home of the deceased was found parked in the garage of his house in Kutlwanong.

The case was postponed until February 27 for further investigation.

Zwakala will remain in custody.
