GET YOUR WALKING SHOES ON

CITY residents have been urged to put on their walking shoes as the Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture celebrates National Big Walk and Recreation Day.

The event will take place on Sunday, October 2 and then again on Friday, October 7. Department spokesperson

Morapedi Sekhoane said participants can take part in various activities, including a five and 10km walk, tug-of-war and indigenous games.

“These events will be observed in all nine provinces through partnerships with government departments as well as the private sector. The two local initiatives will be led by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture,

Desery Fienies, and the head of department (HOD), Oupa Phiri,” said Sekhoane.

“The event will be held for the first time physically this year following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. The Big Walk is open to all citizens irrespective of age, gender, religion and origin. A five and a 10km walk will start and end at the AR Abass Stadium.”

Sekhoane said that the aim of the event is not only for residents to have a fun day but also to promote a healthy lifestyle. “The two events are promising exciting activities that patrons will get to enjoy. The Kimberley community is encouraged to come out in their numbers and experience a family fun day of a different kind and entertainment with a healthy twist,” he said.
