School hosts successful career day

EP LEKHELA High School in Galeshewe hosted several stakeholders during their Career Exhibition Day while also celebrating Heritage Day.

The Unamandla Foundation, headed by Miss SA Teen Universe 2023, Unamandla Vilakazi, a 14-year-old Grade 8 learner, adopted EP Lekhela High School as a part of her campaign.

Vilakazi, who prides herself in advocating education, runs several campaigns in an effort to change the mindset and behaviours of young people.

The event was organised by radio presenter and campaign manager of the foundation, Benjamin Tshabile, in partnership with the Sol Plaatje University, Ubuntu Arts Centre, Love Life and the SAPS.

It was a fun-filled event and a hive of activity as learners were spoiled for choice with educational, motivational and cultural presentations as well as several performances.

Representative from Sol Plaatje University (SPU), David Kanguwe, gave a presentation on the various careers choices available and motivated learners on the importance of education.

Olebile Mothelesi, from Ubuntu, advocated culture and heritage and motivated learners to know where they come from.

Vilakazi started empowerment classes whereby interested learners contribute a small fee, while the proceeds will go to school fund-raising and upkeep of the school, as well as the various programmes aimed at the learners themselves.

She also launched the school website, which will assist the learners in accessing study material.

Vilakazi hopes to host more programmes like the Mr and Mrs EP Lekhela Beauty Pageant and the annual School Awards ceremony.

“The programme went well as it gave various stakeholders the opportunity to work together,” she said.

Tshabile said the event was a success and everyone played a positive role to make it remarkable.

“We hope to make it an annual event and extend it to other schools,” he added.
