Wife sentenced for murder

SOPHIA Meyer, 31, was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for the murder of her husband Carl Walter Meyer, 52, who was a well-known artist.

Upington police spokesperson Constable Nambane said that she was sentenced in the Upington Magistrate’s Court. Nambane said the murder took place on December 22, 2017 after the couple became embroiled in an argument. “Sophia arrived at their residence with Joel Marsel Joseph Dumont, 60, where it was later discovered that he was her boyfriend,” said Nambane.

“Sophia Meyer stabbed her husband in the chest with a knife and he was declared dead on the scene.”

Nambane said that both suspects were arrested on the same day.
